“Cleveleys Writers – Writers for Charity” is a small friendly group of writers of all abilities who meet every second and fourth Tuesday at 1.30pm in THE PARK CLUB on West Drive Cleveleys.
The Group’s mission is to enable local people to express their literary talents and emotions by writing poetry, short stories and plays and to raise money for charity with the performance poetry and the sale of anthologies. Our charity work is varied; last year we raised funds for Brian House Children’s Hospice and the R.N.L.I
Cleveleys Writers and the Festive Season
It’s been a busy festive season for this local group as they’ve been entertaining people and making merry over the festive season.
‘Cleveleys Writers’ spent a hilarious afternoon at Warren Manor entertaining a full house.
Santa and his elves…along with the Christmas fairy…enjoyed a good old sing-song with the audience….and a wide selection of poetry about the crazy days of Christmas and the beauty of Winter.
‘Cleveleys Writers’ also enjoyed a scrumptious Christmas Luncheon at The Briardene Hotel in Cleveleys this December.
Fabulous food, beautiful setting and wonderful company! What more could we want ? … well, at a gathering of Writers…of course there were poems, and stories to share …along with a sketch about “George, Walter and the Genie” courtesy of David Neal.
Stan Holgate was voted our “Rising Star” of 2013 for his outstanding contribution to poetry throughout this, his first year with the “Writers”. Well done Stan ! The winners of the ‘Annual Jim Barton Writing Competition’ also received their certificates…. well done everyone !
Thanks go to Judge, Mrs J. Stebbing for her kind comments and deliberations.

It is the Blackpool Lifeboat Station’s 150th Anniversary in 2014 and Cleveleys Writers have agreed to reprint and donate further copies of this successful Anthology which will be on sale during the celebrations.
The RNLI provide a vital and professional service to us all in dangerous circumstances and Cleveleys Writers are proud to support this fantastic group of selfless and dedicated individuals. Their vital work is totally reliant on voluntary donations from the general public.

Cleveleys Writers were out and about again! This time we were performing with our happy band of “Wordsmiths with a Song” to entertain the elderly citizens at Teal House, Thornton, after they had enjoyed a pleasant luncheon.
Our group on this occasion consisted of ( L to R ) Ivan McKeon; David Neal; Susan Pugh; Stan Holgate; Malcolm Brocklehurst.
Cleveleys Writers are proud to have published a new children’s story book, based on our local area.
‘BREEZE ALONG THE WYRE’ is a Children’s Story Book about four animals and the adventures they have in and around the villages and towns of the area along the River Wyre. The four characters are Cat, Dog, Cockerel and Donkey.
The Colouring Book and a larger print A4 Story Book are only available directly from ‘Cleveleys Writers’ through their email email@example.com or by contacting them at Cleveleys Library where they meet every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 1.30pm.
More about Cleveleys Writers
If you enjoy all things literary and have a fancy for writing yourself, then you really should go along to meet this group, find out more and get involved! Here’s a little bit more information….
We are a local group we’ve now moved from Cleveleys Library (where we have had a wonderful “Home” but having 20 members we have now outgrown the little room) and have taken up residence at The Park Club, diagonally opposite the Library, across the Tram tracks, on West Drive opposite the Methodist Church.
We meet at the same times, (every second and fourth Tuesday at 1.30pm) just in a new place. We also now have facilities for having a brew or a drink…and a loo to hand as well!
We are a small group of friendly writers of all abilities , and we have readings of our own works, workshops, and an Annual Writing Competition.
Our members write plays, short stories and poems, and some are working on novels. We also produce two anthologies of poems and short stories each year to raise money for a chosen local charity.
Last year we completed 6 months for Easterleigh Animal Charity, and then we moved on to a fundraising campaign for Fleetwood RNLI, which ran until Nov/Dec 2011.
We are currently looking for one or two paid bookings locally to raise money for our charitable work.
If you want to give it a go, just come along to one of the open sessions – everyone is very welcome!
