Over the summer of 2015 some 30 shops over 6 categories battled it out to win the most public votes to determine the winning fine food shop in Paul Maynard MP’s local competition.
Over 3,000 online votes were cast and last week Paul presented the winning shop in his campaign to find the areas finest food shop.
From the 6 category winners Paul had to make the hard choice to decide which would be the overall winner and receive the prize of lunch in Parliament. After some deliberation Paul chose Neal’s Family Bakery on Victoria Road West in Cleveleys.
Paul said, “Although people may think this competition was a bit of fun, many of the nominated shops took it very seriously, encouraging their customers to support and vote for them.
“With over 3,000 unique votes cast I do believe the competition was very popular. The serious point behind it was to highlight the quality and variety of produce on offer in our local high streets and that if we do not use the local butcher, baker, greengrocer, deli, fishmonger or cake shop then they will gradually go out of business, leaving our local high streets less vibrant and viable.
“I chose Neal’s Family Bakery as the overall winner as I have always been impressed with the range and quality of what they serve and their constantly friendly and helpful service.
“I look forward to welcoming Andrew and his wife to Parliament next year.”
Andrew Neal, who owns Neal’s Family Bakery adds, “We are delighted to have won and would like to thank all our customers who have voted for us, but most important of all is the hard work and dedication of all our staff who made it possible.
“I would also like to thank Paul Maynard MP for organising the campaign and highlighting how important small family businesses are to the local high street.”
