The Cleveleys Christmas Decorations competition was back for 2016 and this time YOU’ve decided the winner!
Visit Cleveleys has been on a mission to brighten up Christmas in our seaside town and we’ve invited businesses to trim up and showcase their decorations this festive season.
All that entrants had to do was send in photos of their trimmings to be displayed in the photo album on the Visit Cleveleys website.
Drum Roll and Fanfare – the results are in!
The winner of the Christmas Decorations Competition is M-Hair Studio on Victoria Road East with the most votes. Well done guys!
Second runner up is Trinity Hospice and third place goes to Drip-Drop Vape Shop. All worthy winners I’m sure you’ll agree
Visit Cleveleys will be out to see you all early next week with the Trophy and the certificates – see you soon!
Very well done and thank you to everyone who entered.
Paid for out of the Cleveleys Christmas Lights Fund, for the first time this year the winning business also gets the new Cleveleys Christmas Decorations Trophy – until next year when it will be passed on to the next winning business.
For the avoidance of doubt and contrary to incorrect local opinion, Visit Cleveleys hasn’t been involved in raising money for the Christmas Lights fund, other than to share the news that the fundraising was happening. We haven’t collected any cash ourselves, we do not know how much money was raised in total or in detail what it was spent on. The plaque for the winner of the Christmas Lights competition was paid for out of the fund – we were not given the money to buy it, we do not know how much it was, the plaque was given to us on the day that the winner was announced, and then handed over to them. Visit Cleveleys was not paid for organising the Christmas Lights competition and ran it on a goodwill basis and entirely free of charge, including providing the prize and certificates for winners and runners up.
First prize is a years business listing on the Visit Cleveleys website, provided free of charge by Visit Cleveleys.
The winner also gets the new Cleveleys Christmas Decorations Trophy to display for twelve months.
The winner and two runners-up get a certificate.
A warm glow of community spirit and coverage on Visit Cleveleys for all participating businesses!
1. Submit up to three photos of your business, inside and outside, so try to take good shots which show what you’ve achieved. Remember – many people will just look at the photo to judge your efforts!
2. Please submit all your photos at the same time so they are grouped together in the album, please also state the business name. Late photo entries will not be accepted.
3. We will post the entries into the album for judging. You can post your photos onto the Visit Cleveleys Facebook page, or you can email them to jane@theRabbitPatch.co.uk
4. All photos to be entered into the competition must be online by Monday 12 December
5. The public ‘Like’ vote will be counted and the winner declared on Friday 16 December.
6. To vote simply click into the album and then tick ‘Like’ (and make a comment if you want to) about your favourite displays. You can ‘Like’ as many photos as you wish. The business with the total most number of ‘Likes’ across their photos as submitted will be the winner.
6. You can submit houses to the album so that they can share in the festive spirit, but this year only business entries are to be judged.
Footnote from Visit Cleveleys. This is about creating festive community spirit. It’s about everyone joining in, being part of a community who can work together to achieve something. It’s the start of a Festive Cleveleys Christmas that could grow over the years into a bigger, unique way of promoting our town centre during the festive season. Please take part 🙂
Please note: This competition is solely managed by Visit Cleveleys.
Light up a Life – Christmas Switch On
The Christmas Switch on is called Light up a Life because it remembers people who we’ve all loved and lost.
There’s also a Facebook group where you can post a photo of your loved one and your own message – and everyone can join in with remembering people who we’ve lost.
2015 Festive Shop Window Competition
In 2015 Visit Cleveleys worked with Cllr Andrea Kay and Cleveleys Forum to make the Christmas Season a good one, with the Festive Shop Window Competition.
We want Cleveleys to be festive at Christmas, we want it to be full of festive cheer and community spirit. We want people to visit from miles around and say ‘wasn’t it special’, so we rolled our sleeves up and got stuck in to make Christmas in Cleveleys a destination event that everyone can join in with.
For the first time we held a Festive Shop Window competition for businesses which the children of Manor Beach and Northfold Schools went out to judge on 10 December.
Sea it Fresh Seafoods, winner of the 2015 Festive Shop Window Competition
McDonald Property Rentals, highly commended
Trinity Hospice, highly commended
The enthusiasm and community spirit from the shops which did take part was absolutely great and the judging team had a really good afternoon visiting them! It’s a shame that more shops didn’t join in but it was a great start to an event that can grow year on year.
The shops that have taken part have also done really well with their decorations, been inventive and made a big effort to be festive. Well done to all of you!
Now you can take part in the Festive Treasure Hunt for the public, with great prizes for you to win as a bonus!
Competition Judging Day
On Thursday 10 December children from Manor Beach and Northfold Schools went out to inspect each of the 28 shops which entered and decide which one is their favourite.
Here are some of the children outside Vets 4 Pets.
You can see all of the photos from all of the shops here
More about the Festive Shop Window Decoration Competition
As a town, like the others in Wyre Borough, Cleveleys gets a donation from Wyre Council towards municipal Christmas decorations. In previous years this has paid for the big Christmas tree near Cleveleys Square, and the rest used to give a 50% grant towards the little Christmas trees on the fronts of the shops.
You might have noticed that these have been quite sparse – a number of the premises aren’t suitable for trees because of the canopy, and a number of landlords won’t allow them to be fitted to the buildings.
So in 2015 Cleveleys did something different which was also intended to bring Christmas down to eye level, and shared the grant out between shop keepers to buy decorations to trim up their shop windows and host a competition for the most Christmassy display in December.
Children from Manor Beach and Northfold Primary Schools, accompanied by their teachers, judged the windows in 2015.
